It’s no secret that the SRJC Hockey team plays better in the comfy confines of its own barn, Snoopy’s Home Ice. So what better way to get revenge on one of its most disappointing games of last season than to do it at home?
Cal State University, Long Beach comes to Snoopy’s Home Ice for the first time in club history on Oct. 13. The game comes a little more than a year after the Southern California club handed SRJC a disheartening 9-5 road loss in the Polar Bears’ second American Collegiate Hockey Association Division II game of the 2016-17 season. “It’s going to be real fun to face them in our barn, in front of our fans,” said Team President Larry Hansen. “Playing the high-end teams in our barn always puts a good jump in our step. Personally, I’m looking forward to the game because I only got to play in half of the game against them last year.” General Manager Tom Billeter was not playing around when he told the SRJC Hockey team that he had big plans for the upcoming 2017-18 season. And nothing is bigger than the newest set of games to hit the Polar Bears’ official fall schedule.
SRJC will head to Minnesota Sept. 28 to Oct.1 for arguably the organization’s biggest road trip in its history. While the Polar Bears have embarked on several huge trips to Southern California, Boise, Washington and Oregon, Omaha and Iowa, this trip pits SRJC against four teams in as many days. It will play American Collegiate Hockey Association Division II clubs from universities that have Division I NCAA hockey teams. While the full official schedule for the SRJC Hockey team’s 2017-18 season is far from finished, Polar Bears’ fans can already mark their calendar with a marquee match-up that is guaranteed to be one of the most exciting games of the year.
The UC Berkeley Hockey team returns to Snoopy’s Home Ice Sept. 23 to kick-off SRJC’s official 2017-18 season for the first time in more than a year. This game marks the seventh time since 2010 that the two teams have met on SRJC’s opening night. 2016 was the only year Cal and SRJC did not play each other. Santa Rosa, California (June 10, 2017): The Santa Rosa Junior College Ice Hockey team is pleased to announce today the hiring of Nate Panek as head coach for the 2017-18 season. Panek takes over for Blake Johnson, making him the Polar Bears’ fourth head coach since rebranding in 2010.
