SRJC’s Top 10 statistics of the 2015-16 season: No. 5— Rookie Points Leader Max BrownleeWe’re not gonna lie, we waited a long time for Max Brownlee to join the SRJC Hockey team. We heard about him in youth hockey, saw him around the rink, felt heartbroken when they said he got injured. So when Brownlee finally put on the JC sweater we knew we were in for some fun.
SRJC’s Top 10 statistics of the 2015-16 season: No. 6— First-year playersIt shouldn't be a surprise that SRJC's entire rookie class makes our list of top statistics from the 2015-16 season; especially with the numbers that the first-year Polar Bears players put up.
Most seasons there are one or two rookie standouts, but this year all 11 freshman players made a name for themselves. Freshman forwards Kurtis Klinger and Lane Beliveau lead the rookies for the first three months of the season, notching 34 points between them in 16 games. But once they were done at the end of the first semester we pit the other three top rookie skaters against each other just for fun. SRJC’s Top 10 statistics of the 2015-16 season: No. 7 — Penalty free hockeyFor a team that takes a massive amount of penalties a game, you can imagine our surprise when SRJC was just two minutes, 10 seconds short of going an entire two periods without a penalty during the Jan. 14 game against College of the Canyons.
The Polar Bears take an average of 6.64 penalties a game, so the fact that CoC's first goal—the only goal between the teams in the first period—didn't come on the power play was pretty impressive. I mean, it wasn't cool that the enemy scored, but the fact that they didn't get one on an extra advantage says a lot about SRJC's discipline against a team its been known to skate circles around. SRJC’s Top 10 statistics of the 2015-16 season: No. 8- Goals for and againstThere's no denying the fact that SRJC Hockey players look like absolute studs when scoring on the ice. Whether it's sweet spin-o-ramas in front of the net, dirty dangles around defenders or perfectly executed passes around the zone, the Polar Bears know how to put on a show.
In the 2015-16 season SRJC scored 157 spectacular goals, which is 16 more than the team scored last season. That averages to 6.28 goals a game. |
