SANTA ROSA, CALIFORNIA (September 14, 2017): The Sant Rosa Junior College Hockey team announced today that the organization will begin charging admission to select home games this season at Snoopy's Home Ice. All games with early start times now cost to attend, while all games with a 9:15 p.m. time remain free of charge. SRJC kicks off the season at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 23 vs UC Berkeley. This match-up is the first of five home games that the team will charge admission. The other games include Oct. 7 vs. Santa Clara University, Oct. 13 vs. CSU Long Beach, Nov. 11 vs. the University of Oregon and Jan. 20 vs. Cal Lutheran University. Single game ticket prices will be $7 general admission, $4 for SRJC/ visiting students and $2 for kids ages 6-17. Children 5 and under are free.
“Snoopy’s Home Ice and the youth hockey club of Santa Rosa have graciously given us prime ice time for our college hockey games so we can accommodate young families and children who attend our events,” said General Manager Tom Billeter. “Because of the earlier start times, the cost of ice rental is substantially higher. We are, therefore, forced to charge admission for all SRJC Hockey games that start prior to 9:15 p.m.” Until this year, SRJC has kept its home games a free event, shouldering the upwards of $800 that it costs to host a game. With the rising cost of operating a competitive collegiate hockey team, solely covering the added operations fees is no longer feasible. “We are looking at about $1500 in expenses per home game and that does not include all the volunteering we receive from our staff, supporters of our hockey program and sponsors from the youth club and Snoopy’s Home Ice,” Billeter said. By charging admission, the team will be able to not only cover costs for games, practices and officials— which can costs between $300-1500 — but also travel expenses, extra sets of game and practice jerseys and can keep players’ dues relatively low. Spectators can pay in cash, check or credit card starting 1 hour before puck drop each game. |
