Mark your calendars SRJC Hockey fans, the official 2015-16 season schedule is available and chalk full of exciting new opponents and a few favorite rivals. The season will kick off Sept. 25 against UC Berkeley at Snoopy’s Home Ice. The Polar Bears have opened the home season against Cal every year since re-banding six years ago and has never lost an opening match. From there, the team will head on the road for a three-day tournament at Boise State University to take on the home team, as well as San Jose State University Division II and Carroll College. SRJC has not faced the latter team, but took a 5-2 victory over Boise State at Snoopy’s last January. The team will face SJSU DII a total of three times this season.
Portland State University will try its luck Oct. 17 and Jan. 24, 2016. The Polar Bears have not seen the Division II team in recent years, but playing both games at Snoopy’s will sure be a point in SRJC’s favor. The team will begin its defense of its third Pacific Collegiate Hockey Association title starting Oct. 23 when it takes on UC Davis in Vacaville. This will be the first time the two squads will meet since SRJC defeated UC Davis in the PCHA championship game. Longtime rival Santa Clara University comes to Snoopy’s for the first of four games on Oct. 24, followed by a Halloween game against Stanford University Oct. 30. The Polar Bears will take two Southern California road trips this season: one the first week of November to face College of the Canyons and San Diego State University, and one in January 2016 against College of the Canyons and CSU Fullerton. A game against SJSU DII in early February will cap the 2015-16 regular season for the Polar Bears, before a hopeful spot in this season PCHA Tournament and American Collegiate Hockey Association playoffs.
