College hockey was back at Snoopy's Home Ice Friday and Saturday night with games against Stanford and UC Santa Cruz. January 24th was a celebration of our local first reponders with representation from Guns and Hoses Hockey team members: Zach Brown, Teddy Day, and Josh Gagnebin from the Santa Rosa Fire Department, and Thomas Moran of the Southern Marin Fire Department. A big thank you from the Polar Bears for attending Friday's game! For two periods the game was well matched at 1-1, with Stanford scoring two consecutive goals in the 3rd to clinch the game at 3-1. The stands were full Saturday night with Polar Bear fans looking for a home game win. They were not disappointed! The Polar Bears quickly pulled ahead of the Aggies with four unanswered goals in the first period. The Aggies tried to battle back in the second period with 2 goals to the Polar Bear's 3. With only one goal for UC Davis in the 3rd, Polar Bear captain Bobby Rogers clinched the win with 2 more goals to add to his 4 other goals for the night. The stands were full of young hockey players for Youth Hockey Night at Snoopy's Home Ice. Prior to the first puck drop, the Polar Bears honored our local youth hockey coaches for their dedication to growing the sport of hockey in Santa Rosa. We appreciate your time to volunteer for our local young players, many of whom may hopefully become Polar Bears someday! The Santa Rosa Flyers little Mites presented a big scrimmage during the first period intermission. Older youth players stepped up to the center of the ice to try their luck at a goal shot in their sneakers to win a SRJC hockey puck. A big win for the team and lots of fun for our fans! The Polar Bears thank you for your continued support and enthusiasm for the team. Photos courtesy of Austin Miller at 5.6photography
