SANTA ROSA, CALIFORNIA (September 12, 2016): The Santa Rosa Junior College Hockey team is proud to announce its 2016-17 schedule for the Polar Bears’ inaugural season as an American Collegiate Hockey Association Division II team. This year’s schedule is chalk full of new opponents and longtime rivals, making every game, both home and away, a can’t miss event for all fans.
Mark your calendars SRJC Hockey fans, the official 2015-16 season schedule is available and chalk full of exciting new opponents and a few favorite rivals.
The season will kick off Sept. 25 against UC Berkeley at Snoopy’s Home Ice. The Polar Bears have opened the home season against Cal every year since re-banding six years ago and has never lost an opening match. The SRJC Polar Bears have released their 2014-2015 season schedule, packed with marquee names and accomplished opponents, this season is bound to be a memorable one for Polar Bear fans. The Polar Bears have 15 home and 19 away games scheduled totaling for a 34 game season not including post season play. The Polar Bears open the season on the road in South Lake Tahoe when they faceoff with the Tahoe Blue of the Western States Hockey League on September 5, 2014. The Polar Bears will return to Santa Rosa for the home opener against UC Berkeley at Snoopy’s Home Ice on September 20, 2014 at 8:30pm. With the success the Polar Bears exhibited last year and now the schedule setting the stage for big opportunities, Polar Bear players and staff have their sights set high on another rewarding and successful season of Santa Rosa Junior College Ice Hockey. The Santa Rosa Junior College Polar Bears are in the process of setting up a scrimmage to replace the 8:30pm October 19th game but nothing has been officially announced by the team. By: Keshia Knight, SRJC Hockey Staff Writer After two canceled games to open November, the Polar Bears hockey team is ready to get back on the ice as they host the 2nd annual Wine Country Collegiate Classic at Snoopy's Home Ice November 8-10. Hockey fans will be treated to a three-day showcase featuring the SRJC Polar Bears, Metropolitan State University of Denver, Northern Arizona University and the Bay Area Sharks (a Junior team). Competition opens up at 6:30 p.m.Thursday, November 8 as the Polar Bears face off against the Metropolitan State Ice Jacks. The remaining two teams, the Bay Area Sharks and Northern Arizona University, will match up for a 9 p.m. game to close out Day 1. The Polar Bears will take on the Bay Area Sharks at 6 p.m. Friday, November 9, followed by an 8:30 p.m. game between Metropolitan State and Northern Arizona University. On the last day of competition, SRJC will play Northern Arizona University in a 5:30 p.m. match up. The Sharks and Metropolitan State will close out the weekend with an 8 p.m. game. The Wine Country Collegiate Classic gives the team a chance to face talented clubs and gear up for the next month of competition before the winter break. The team is confident this weekend's showcase will get them back on track. "Our showcase provides us with an opportunity to forget about the losses in October, and has major implications on rankings for us," Coach Tom Billeter said. "With players returning from injuries and sharper systems and special teams, it'll be tough, but I think our guys can take a 3-0 record from the showcase." |
