 From an 18-2 win over San Jose State to a sweep of the Wine Country Collegiate Classic, Snoopy’s Home Ice has been the Polar Bear’s lucky charm this season. SRJC has yet to lose on its home ice and this Saturday as the team takes on its PCHA rival UC Davis for the last home game of the year, the Polar Bears expect nothing less than another spectacular victory.
The team will look a little different as it takes the ice, as it does after every winter break: a few players have departed while a few have joined. Despite the roster shakeup, the Polar Bears are focused on making every minute on the ice count before they embark on their playoff journey. SRJC has faced offed against UC Davis twice this season, victoriously outscoring the team 16-10. Forwards Adam Johnson, John Keshishian and Josiah Nikkel led the offense in both games, and will most likely do the same in this last match. The three skaters are among the team’s lead scorers, and Nikkel ranks sixth in points in the ACHA’s Division III. Saturday’s game will also give the Polar Bears a good look at a refreshed UC Davis team before both clubs head into the PCHA tournament at the end of January. The reigning PCHA champions will no doubt match up against UC Davis once again in the division tournament, just like in last season’s championship game. A series win would be an excellent precursor for SRJC’s ACHA playoff run starting in mid-February. The puck is slated drop at 8:30 p.m. Saturday, and as always admission is free. |
