SRJC’s Top 10 statistics of the 2015-16 season: No. 1 — A Thank You to our fansWe had a hard time coming up with a No. 1 statistic to end this little series of ours. Mostly, because after nine of these articles our creativity had reached its end point. But after the March 25 alumni game we got to thinking about the great moments of this last decade of SRJC Hockey. And no matter what memory came to mind it all had ONE common factor: you, the Polar Bear faithful. That is why our fans— our friends, our family, our entire support system that enables us to do what we love — comes in at No. 1 in all the categories that really matter. When the SRJC Hockey team rebranded in 2010, players just wanted an outlet for their athletic talent after years of travelling to play hockey. Most figured it would be cool to play in front of their family while going to school.
We started out at Snoopy's Home Ice with a few people in the stands. Then a few grew into a lot, and a lot turned into the sold-out, packed around the glass, standing-room only crowd we get to play in front of every single game. Whether it's a match against less talented squads or elite teams, you pack into Snoopy's and become that X factor — that boisterous, heckling, annoyingly perfect threat to opponents who dare cross us. Without your energy and cheers, we doubt we could pull off half the wins we have at home each season. From the first puck drop to the last, you are by our side through all of it. You pack the home games and tune in online for the roadies. There is never a time we can't feel your presence cheering us on; and we can't tell you how much that means to us. As a club that receives little to no college funding, we are only kept alive by your generousity and support. We can't thank you enough for buying chuck-a-pucks, trying your luck on the 50/50 drawing, and dressing up in our gear day-in and day-out. There is no collegiate hockey fan base that even comes close to the size and intensity that every single one of you bring to the table. This year we got to celebrate our first ever Pacific Collegiate Hockey Association Championship title at home. And even though we have four of them, the 2015-16 win, by far, beats the other three because we got to share it with you. So to all of our fans, our Ruckus Crew, our little Polar Bears, our sponsors and our street team, we thank you for being a part of our hockey dream. We couldn't do this without you, and we would never want to. Here's to next season, Polar Bear fans. We can't wait to see you Bring the Ruckus in 2016-17! Thank you from the 2015-16 Polar Bear players, coaches Blake Johnson and Nick Harris, General Manager Tom Billeter, Director of Operations Jacob Fitzpatrick, Director of Media Relations Keshia Knight, and SRJC Faculty Advisor Denny Hutton. |
