(The following is a satirical twist on an end of the season statistical breakdown.) There are two things in this world that Polar Bear players possibly love more than they love playing hockey: facetime and stats. Every week players pester us with inquiries about what their point status is and when they’ll get to hear about it online. Am I beating so-and-so in points? How many points do I need to beat so-and-so? You know I got an assist on that play, right? In all fairness, we created the monster. We handed out way too many #PolarBearCrush honors and #TopPlayerTuesday nods for these guys not to get big heads. It’s pretty much our fault for turning these fine, upstanding gentlemen into number-hungry beasts.
All jokes aside, stats aren’t everything to the members of the SRJC Hockey team. Knowing where players ranked and above which teammate just created a friendly competition that further strengthened the Polar Bear Brotherhood this season. In spirit of that friendly competition, we’ve compiled a list of SRJC’s top 10 statistics from the 2015-16 campaign. Over the next month we'll post the Polar Bears' accomplishments in a fun, comical analysis titled, "All about the Numbers." The posts will be released every Monday and Thursday with a new topic detailing the good and bad of SRJC's play this season. "We wanted to have a little fun with off season content this year," said SRJC Hockey's Director of Media Relations Keshia Knight. "Statistical analysis can be boring or confusing unless you're super into calculations like penalty kill percentage and goals against average. But stats can be an alternative, strategic look at a team's play. So we thought we could give you the Polar Bears' season stats in an entertaining, yet informative way." The first segment of "All about the Numbers" debuts this Thursday, Feb. 25. Stay tuned... |
